About the event

Owl Eyes Wilderness Survival Skills Instructor, Tim Swanson, will be in the Hive teaching several classes.

The skills covered in Survivalist A include:

  • Knife Skills, Survival Kits, and Cordage
  • Debris Shelter Building
  • Fire Building
  • Archery and Rabbit Sticks
  • Camoflauge and Atlatl
  • Survival Challenge and Games

The skills covered in Survivalist B include:

  • Friction Fire
  • Lean-To Shelter Building
  • Figure 4 Traps
  • Other Various Traps
  • Carving Atlatls
  • Atlatl Darts

Tim Swanson will provide instruction on Tuesdays for 3 hours each class. Survivalist A is $350 for 6 weeks from September 12 - October 17. Survivalist B is $350 for 6 weeks from October 24-November 28.

Following Survivalist A and B, if the group desires we may do Wildcrafter A and B ($270) during the winter (adaptable to indoors) covering: 

  • Carving Spoons
  • Gourd Containers
  • Leather Pouches
  • Fishing Handlines
  • Carving Forks
  • Slingshots
  • Arrow Making
  • Carving Wooden Animals

Class fees include:

- All necessary materials and tools

- Gear and safety gloves

- Notebook and pencils

- Travel Fee

You DO NOT need gear for this class, though personal gear is highly recommended so you can learn with your own gear and practicie skills at home.

Recommended Gear:

- A fixed blade knife with sheath. This is the one recommended by Tim:

- Both cut resistent gloves AND leather gloves 

- Ferro rod

This is an outdoor class.

Please bring:

- Clothes for the weather (layers, coats, boots, gloves, snowpants, hats, etc as needed)

- Change of clothes in case you get wet/cold/messy

- Water bottle

- Food (snacks/lunch)

- Gear: knife, gloves, ferro rod (optional, if you have your own)

Adults are welcome to stay or children may be dropped off for the program (please complete Hive care enrollment forms). Tim will also have waivers for every family to sign at the beginning of the first class. OEWS sibling discount is $20/child. Please use code "Sibling20" at checkout. Minimum 5 students required. If mimimum is not met, class fee will be refunded. Once class minimum is met and class booking is finalized, fees are non-refundable.
